Spongebob is racist? According to Holly M Barker, a professor at a university in Washington believes that the hit Nickelodeon TV show “Spongebob Squarepants” is violent and racist. She thinks that the show normalizes colonization of indigenous lands. She thinks the show is a reference to a real place called Bikini Atoll located in the Marshall islands in the pacific ocean. She also says that the fish on spongebob are mutated and it is due to the government using the islands as nuclear testing. Another thing she believes is that the houses and music stereotype the Hawaiian culture. She also references how the show is making children accustomed to taking people's land.
