Rap music is better if its poetic and meaningful. Thebe, AKA Earl Sweatshirt, really captures a lot of emotion in his hit album ‘Doris’. The album is mostly filled with slower rap songs because in it he explains what it's like to be severely addicted to drugs that slow you down like Xanax and Oxycodone. Even tho there are a lot of slower songs he still has his upbeat rap songs. Some of the best songs in the album are ‘Pre’, ‘Sunday’, and ‘Centurion’. The positive aspects about the album is it has a lot of deeper meanings beyond his lyrics, sometimes the meaning has to do with what voice or tone he's rapping in or what words he uses and when. The down side to the album is, it isn't like normal mainstream rap, it has kind of an underground vibe to it. Some people like that but most people like the upbeat mumble rap that you hear on the radio. Overall I would rate the album 4.8/5 stars.
