In a period of a week, President Vladimir Putin had cause a lot of controversy.

For those of you that have never heard the name before maybe it’s because he is ex KGB.

First with Ukraine’s president fleeing the country to Russia due to many of his powers being taken up by parliament. Russia believes it is their obligation to control pro-Russia Crimea.

Earlier this week men in military uniforms with no insignia and Russian superiors surrounded a Ukrainian military air control base. Now President Putin claims his troops did not invade.

The G8 which is short for what it sounds like: “group of eight” held a summit and they all believe that Russia is wrong and has violated International agreements and Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Russian president Putin first stated that Russia had to protect interests that they had in the Crimea region but now he won’t even claim responsibility for his actions of invading the country by stating that he did not send his troops to Crimea, all while Ukraine’s new leader claims that it was under control by the riot police, security forces and 11,000 “self- defense” troops.

International countries however are taking measures to punish President Putin for his actions such as the MICEX stock collapsing a collateral 10.7% making it loose about $58 billion just as much as the Sochi winter Olympics just cost.

The state controlled natural gas monopoly Gazprom, which accounts for roughly a quarter of Russian tax revenues, lost $15 billion in market value in just one day. The value of Russian currency dropped against the dollar to its lowest point ever recorded.

Not only this, but neighboring countries that were once former Soviet Union from Central Asia to the Baltic’s with large Russian speaking populations fear of becoming the next Ukraine creating tension right at Russia’s borders.

President Putin has agreed to meet with NATO. This may be the last opportunity to make things right.

  2. Great title it was very clever. Putin is merely taking advantage of a power vacuum in Europe. The Obama administration needs to be careful or the American people will be speaking Russian in the near future.

  3. Great article. I've always loved Russian culture and this whole thing has been quite interesting how they pretty much used the olyimics as a cover up while they did this.
