It is 10:00 in the morning on a Monday, you’ve been in school for two hours and your mid-morning cravings begin to take effect.

You ask to go to the bathroom, only to sneak downstairs and bee-line it straight to the vending machines. Hmm decisions, decisions; Chex Mix, Pop-Tarts and Fruit Snacks; these are the foods that will hold you over until lunch? Personally, I’m tired of these snacks; we need a change-up for the better of our taste buds.

Where are the Doritos, the Snickers, or even a Zebra Cake or two? I understand that they would like to make healthier choices as far as the snack selection is concerned because they feel as if the children are becoming “plump,” but I assure you, the school is not at fault for the size of its student body (yes, pun-intended).

I’ve seen kids that bring in jumbo bags of Fred’s hot fries, 2 chocolate Swiss Rolls, strawberry milk, and a king size Cow Tail, just to start off their morning. I think if we can bring in any kind of food that we want, why not let us have better food in the vending machines as well as the cafeteria.

I wouldn’t mind if they would at least let us vote for the foods that we want, like maybe some popcorn, a few Lays brand chips, and a Hershey or a Twix. It’s no secret that most of the students here do not enjoy coming to school everyday until June, so why not give them some good food, real food, to make the experience that much more enjoyable.

I do understand the current snack choices from a healthy standpoint, but if we can bring a whole candy store in our backpacks, why not throw a few treasures into the vending machines just for snickers and giggles?

  2. You have an excellent point, the foods in the machines we have are getting boring. It also is a point I want to mention that the drinks we're being sold are actually worse than the non-diet drinks, the "nutrasweet" (aspartame), the artificial sweetener in the Diet Coke and flavored water... Turns into formaldehyde at 96 degrees Farenheit. How come nobody has made this an issue to be brought to the administration? They won't sell "junk food" but they let us consume poison!

  3. This was really good. I agree with what your saying because if your going to eat the food anyways you might as well buy it from the school. They would get a profit anyways. I feel like it would save half the students the trouble from going to the gas station in the mornings and being late. I hope someone reads this and takes an action.

  4. I've seen kids bringing 2 liters of Dr. Pepper and huge bags of chips. Maybe the school should add some junk food to the vending machines and make a few extra bucks.
