Many people pass-on as regular occasion, from many different things. Things happen, life goes on, and people miss you. Most people have funerals for the one they love, for the remembrance of them. Funerals are usually private or public depending on the people holding them and their views on things.
Well as for most of us, we have heard about the “Westboro Baptist Church”. This “church” is an Independent Baptist church known for its extreme stance against homosexuality and its protest activities, which include picketing funerals and desecrating the American flag. The church is widely described as a hate group. They are very well known for coming to schools and protesting on many beliefs of what they have. As for us, last year they had protested against gays, and teachers saying “god hates us all” towards our school.
Many people around the United States know of this group and what they like to do. Well, in October of 2010, they had protested against Albert Snyder, a former Military officer‘s funeral for what they believed in. For many, the idea of protesting at any funeral let alone one for a member of the military is rude, ignorant, selfish and horrifying; yet members of the Westboro Church proudly boast of having held more than 44,000 pickets at funerals and other events.
They also strongly defend their First Amendment right to protest. The amendment prohibits the making of any law "respecting an establishment of religion", impeding the free exercise of religion, infringing on the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment has been interpreted by the Supreme Court as erecting a separation of church and states.
Just recently this group has got known for protesting at 9 year old Christina Green’s funeral after being murdered in Tucson Shooting. This young girl was born on September 11th 2001, and she was involved in many things around her school such as Student Council and many others.
I had asked a student at Saint James High School how they felt about this church and how they go around doing what they do and a current 11th grader Kiara Baker stated” This church is ridiculous, and it just shows how ignorant they can be, and they have no self respect for anything or anyone, but themselves.
