School’s out for summer! Well, almost.

With graduation quickly approaching, seniors are gearing up for exams and preparing for their final days of high school. Once exams are over, seniors are going to be treated to a day of fun on the senior picnic.

This year, like previous years, the Senior Picnic was supposed to be at Franks Theaters in the Inlet Square Mall. The permission slips were ready to be handed out, but then the news broke that Franks is closed for good, so the school had to look for an alternative.

Instead of going to Franks this year, seniors will be going to the Fun Warehouse. Personally, I think this is a better option because there is a lot more to do. The Fun Warehouse has roller skating, laser tag, and go carts.

In addition to the senior picnic, the Class of 2016 will be starting a new tradition of a Grad Walk. Seniors will walk through the halls of St. James High one last time while wearing their caps and gowns. Then, they will split up and go to St. James Elementary, Burgess, or Seaside to walk through the school while the elementary school kids line the halls and cheer.

I think this is a great tradition to be starting, and it’s even more special that my class will be the first ones to do it. The Grad Walk is a way for younger kids to see why they go to school and what the end goal is.

It’s bittersweet for high school to be coming to an end, but it is certainly going to end on a high note.
