What's in your wallet?

by Kelsey Friedman
Spring break is fast approaching. Time for students to relax and take a well needed vacation from school. But, for most students it is also a time to go “job hunting.”

Most places from Myrtle Beach to Murrells Inlet lay off many of their workers in the off season and then begin to hire back in the spring time when more workers are needed due to the increase in tourists.

It seems to me that this is a perfect time for businesses and restaurants to hire workers because students are also looking for something to do and a way to make money during their time off from school. If you ask me I think jobs are very important for teenagers to have because it keeps them out of trouble. For example, if you went all spring and summer without having a job you are more likely to get yourself in trouble at home or even with the law. I believe this is because students have too much time on their hands that they don’t know what to do with.

A simple solution to this would be to go out and get a part time job, that way you are making a good amount of money for a high school student, but also, you still have time to hang out with friends. If you are starting to look for jobs already I suggest applying to restaurants on the marsh walk, or applying for a position at one of the many camp sites.

Another reason a job is important for teenagers is because it teaches you money management, and is a good way to start saving up money before you go to college. That way you won’t be complaining as much about being a broke college student. Also, you will not have to work as much during college and will have more time to focus more on studying and other activities.

So students, if you’re wanting to save up some money, you better start looking for a job now! Spring and summer jobs will not be easy to get, but they’ll keep you out of trouble and they’ll make sure you have money for whatever activities you want to do.

I really need a job, haha. I think everyone is trying to find one. I think that by looking now is better because all of the people that come from a different country to work with a work visa are coming during March and April. So keep your eyes open now! Great article Kelsey!

Good choice of a topic, and great job writing it. I couldn't agree more then teens have too much time on their hands to get in trouble during summer break.
