Hope for homeless students
by Shelly Quintana
Have you ever been sitting in class and you just happen to overhear how someone has no money whatsoever and maybe has to live with a friend? Some people can handle that situation or even choose it; however, some really have nothing other than a friend’s couch.
Here at St James High School, during all lunches, there is a program for kids to look at if they have a problem such as finding a place to stay. The place is called Sea Haven and they have a special program called the TLP (Transitional Living Program) program. The services they provide are:
-College information and technical help
-Physical and mental health aid
-Job aid
-Independent living plans
-Cash rewards program that awards those who achieve goals they’ve made themselves
There are other programs to help for different situations not only being homeless, but also a runaway. By coming to Sea Haven Street Outreach Center they give you access to laundry services, showers, emergency foods, travel packs and ways to get off the street.
Sea Haven is entirely confidential, so no one would be aware you are receiving help from them. Sea Haven also has a type of shelter home for kids even 13 years of age to help them with any type of situation.
You can look into Sea Haven and find all of the information you would need to get yourself or even a friend help they need or even deserve. There really is no reason for someone to be living on their own when they don’t have too. Don’t be afraid, there is always help for anyone who ever needs it.

I didn't know any of this, so thank you for informing me. I'm glad they have organizations like this so people who need some help can easily get it.
I am so glad you wrote about this Shelly. This is one thing that really gets me about people judging other people, you don't know their situation. I really do not think people in our school understand that teens being homeless is a real problem and that it is happening everyday, more and more. Don't be sp quick to judge someone.
It's great that you made awareness to this situation. I really hate that people are homeless and there aren't enough shelters to help them. I think what Sea Haven is doing is a great thing.
Bringing awareness to people who have financial burdens really is important in making society a better place. Great article Shelly.
It makes me so sad and mad that some kids have to live homeless lives and face a lot of troubles that they didn't cause or deserve. Great that there is good people who try to help.
I'm glad you pointed this out Shelly because one of my friends actually are staying with me because she has nowhere to stay, and it's sad. Great subject to write about!
I've never heard of this organization, but it sounds like it helps a lot of people who need it. Great job Shelly!
Great article Shelly, I know one of my best friends stays with another friend. And it is hard for him to live and pay for some stuff.
Great article shelly!! I didnt know about this organization but it sounds really good
