Equality is the key

by Savannah Phillips
Do you feel like it’s your place to judge other people's lifestyle? I just find it unbelievable how some people make it such a big deal as their own problem.

Homosexuality is a personal choice not a government and or world problem. Proposition 8 is a ballot proposition passed on November 4, 2008 in the Fall election to allow same-sex marriage in California.

If Proposition 8 passes children in public schools will be taught that same-sex marriage is just as good as traditional marriage. Also adoption agencies will be forced to place children with same-sex couples, in spite of any agency’s beliefs.

At any church, if ministers preach against same-sex marriage they may be sued for hate speech. However it has already happened in Canada and Sweden which have already legalized same-sex marriage.

Most people that are against Prop 8 is the republican party. Instead of expanding the California State Constitution, the court is basing their decision on a 1996 U.S. Supreme Court standard that said a majority may not take away a minority’s rights without legitimate reasons.

Hopefully Proposition 8 will pass and all the hard work will be worth wild in the end. Gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to have the right to be in a marriage. According to the bible “all people should be treated equally”. What’s happening America?

They passed it, thats what a teacher told me yesterday. I agree totally btw, I don't think its anyones right to tell you who to marry or anything. I dont want to express my whole opinion on here but I dont think its right how the government treats gays/lesbians,

We still face many problems in America with equality. Glad to see some battles are being won.

I'm glad to see gays have the same rights as straight couples but I don't think it's right to sue a preacher for his beliefs. A law can change what the government can do but it shouldn't effect a religion Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I agree completely with same sex marriage. I did a research project on it last year because I am in full support of it. I think same sex marriage should be legalized everywhere, its not fair for people to discriminate. Good job girl!

Glad to see people are being heard and have their personal freedom. Equality truly is the key.
